Snacking: tortas de aceite

Logic dictates that when it comes to fried foods, fresh is best - and logically, something that in all probability was fried several weeks ago shouldn’t be that good.

Still, I couldn’t resist these babies when I saw them at Surfas, the gourmet warehouse. I could just picture myself daintily nibbling one with a cup of cinnamony hot chocolate - so Spanish! Almost as if I had gone with Wes to the Costa Brava this summer, where he rented a house with some friends, instead of saving my vacation days for a big trip to India this spring.
And these tortas, flatbreads studded with fennel or anise, fried in olive oil and dusted with sugar, are pretty good. Turns out that hot chocolate isn’t the best match for them, though - they go well with a cup of strong coffee.
